Common Solar Problems and Simple Fixes (Homeowner Friendly) by Halo Solar Systems

If something looks wrong, don’t panic. Most solar “problems” are simple and fixable. The key is to check safely, understand basic causes, and know when to call a technician.

Common issues (and simple homeowner checks)

1) Lower output (most common)
Likely reasons:
Points:

  • Dust on panels
  • New shade (tank, tree growth, terrace shed)
  • Cloudy/rainy weather or seasonal change
  • One-time dip due to weather

Simple fixes:
Points:

  • Clean the panels (safe time: early morning/evening)
  • Check if any new shade is hitting panels during 11 AM–3 PM
  • Compare output with the last 7 days, not one day
  • If drop continues 2–3 days after cleaning, call support

2) App not updating / no data
Likely reasons:
Points:

  • Wi-Fi password changed
  • Router location changed or signal weak
  • Monitoring dongle disconnected
  • Internet downtime

Simple fixes:
Points:

  • Restart router
  • Check if inverter is ON and showing normal lights
  • Confirm Wi-Fi network is active
  • If still not updating, ask installer to reconnect monitoring (often a 5–10 min fix)

3) Inverter shows alert / error
Likely reasons:
Points:

  • Grid voltage fluctuation
  • Protection trip (ACDB/DCDB protection doing its job)
  • Grid outage or unstable supply
  • Loose connection (needs technician check)

Simple fixes:
Points:

  • Note the exact error code/message (take a photo)
  • Wait and see if it auto-recovers when grid stabilizes
  • If alert repeats frequently, contact installer with screenshot/photo
  • Do not open DB boxes yourself

When to call a technician immediately (no delay)

Stop using the system and call support if you notice:

Points:

  • Burning smell
  • Sparks
  • Loose wires or hanging cables
  • Water entering electrical boxes (ACDB/DCDB/inverter area)
  • Visible damage to cables, conduit, or junction box

These are safety issues—don’t wait.

What NOT to do (very important)

Points:

  • Don’t DIY electrical fixes
  • Don’t open ACDB/DCDB boxes
  • Don’t try to “tighten” DC connectors yourself
  • Don’t spray water near inverter/DB boxes

Important description
Never DIY electrical fixes. Solar is safe when handled correctly, risky when handled casually. Homeowner checks should be visual + monitoring-based only—anything electrical should be done by a trained technician.

If output drops suddenly or alerts repeat, book a quick inspection. A short check can restore generation fast and prevent bigger issues later.
